Snowboards
Boards are plenty. BURTON, NEVER SUMMER, GNU/LIB TECH
Are you ready to ride? We're ready help? Check out the fierce boards. New graphics, new colors, it's all in Beyond Waves, man.
People come to us in Santa Fe because we've been providing excellent service for snowboards for the last ten years. There are some questions to ask yourself when deciding to buy a board.
How long have you been riding? Your answer will help us determine the flex, sidecut radius, and overall character of the snowboard you need.
What type of terrain do you ride? A board that stands on end and reaches your chis is good for park 'n' pipe freestyle and Santa Fe's general snow conditions (groomed). A longer freeride board is ideal for high-speed stability, deep powder conditions, and big mountains.
What size are your feet/boots? The size of your boots determines how wide a board you will need.
Some important terms to know:
Effective edge: measured in centimeters, the length of metal edge that is acually touching the snow when carving a turn. Effective edge varies from board to board. When you compare effective edge of boards of the same length (nose to tail) sometimes you will find different effective edge lengths. A board with shorter effective edge will have a looser and shorter feel and boards with longer effective edge will ride more stable and have a longer feel.
Sidecut radius: measured in meters, sidecut radius determines the size of a turn that your board will make, The smaller the sidecut (seven meters for example) will provide a pretty tight turn. A longer sidecut (say nine meters) will make for a longer turn.
Length: The overall length of the board is measured in centimeters from end of the nose to end of the tail. Length is an important factor when thinking powder and spin tricks, but otherwise, effective edge has hore to do with how a board acutally rides.
Waist width: Measurement of the narrowest part of the board. Waist width whould be relative to the size of your boots, it also has effect on overall performance: a narrower waist makes for quicker transitions between turns, wider boards have more surface area for stability and float.
Freestyle: Freestyle boards are typically shorter, more flexible, and more symmetric than freeride boards. These boards are intended for prak rails and halfpipe riding.
Freeride: Freeride boards are longer than freestyle boards, with a stiffer flex for steeps and speed, and a bid sidecut.
Snowskates
Snowboardings' stepchild is on the creep, sneaking up on big brother and staking claims of its own - snowskate parks and all- TWS. The bi-deck style is becoming popular fast, but with a higher price than snowskates in the past. The performance of the more-evolved design is opening new doors of how many tricks can be done on the snowskates. The new designs are easier to turn, ollie, and closer to real skateboard feel.
Bindings
Bindings are a device used to hold the boots of the rider to the snowboard, usually comprised of metal or plastic of both. Bindings come in sizes: small, medium, large, extra-large and often comes in womens and kids models too. There are also step-in bindings. Step-in bindings have been around for the last seven years. Step-ins have made a place in the snowboarding world. convenience. We have found that most of the step-ins cannot function to the full extent of soft bindings, but that does not mean they are not good. Most people do not attempt tricks large enough to notice limitations that step-ins have. Some of the best applications for step-ins are: befinners, snowboard instructors, and people who do not like to sit down to strap in. We offer an assortment of bindings to choose from. Click any of the links in the bindings column to view manufacturers web sites.
Boots
Basically what you're after here is a boot that fits like a second skin. Your main objective is to reduce or eliminate heel-lift. If your toes touch the front of the boot, it's OK, make sure you can wiggle them. Just don't let your toes get scrunched they will not get enough circulation and you'll have problems. Another thing to keep in mind is that after some use the boots will "pack down" giving you a little more room. There are also little "tricks" with accessories that can help with your boot fit. Stop by, give us a call or e-mail us and we will tell you everything we know about these tricks.
